University of Helsinki, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are seeking a highly motivated, energetic individual to join the mastitis research group at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Production Animal Medicine. The starting date is flexible but preferably by August 2016.
The University of Helsinki is an international academic community of 40,000 students and staff members. It operates on four campuses in Helsinki and at 15 other locations. The Department of Production Animal Medicine of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine operates in two locations: the Saari Unit in Mäntsälä (roughly 60 kilometers northeast of Helsinki) and the Viikki Campus in Eastern Helsinki. The physical location of this postdoctoral position will be at the Saari Unit. The Saari Unit accommodates the disciplines of both production animal medicine and reproduction of domestic animals. The Saari Unit also houses the Production Animal Hospital, one of the clinics of the University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, which includes a mobile clinic, a hospital for production animals and an outpatient clinic. The Helsinki Unit offers the discipline of animal management and welfare, which covers nutrition of and the impact of the production environment on domestic animals as well as animal welfare and ethology.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in a related field, s/he preferably has a DVM degree, interest and experience in dairy production medicine, a strong epidemiologic knowledge and good statistical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required and the applicant must also demonstrate ability to work as part of a team.
The University of Helsinki offers a salary dependent on the qualifications and previous experience. At the beginning of the employment period, the postdoctoral researcher’s salary is about EUR 3155 gross per month. The appointment starts with a probationary period of four months.
