PhD opportunity at the Danish Technical University DTU.

The PhD project is part of a Horizon 2020 research project called COMPARE (http://www.compare-europe.eu/) aiming to speed up the detection of and response to disease outbreaks among humans and animals worldwide through the use of next generation sequencing (NGS) techniques.
The specific objectives of the PhD project are:
• To develop mathematical models and tools for source attribution based on NGS based routine surveillance and outbreak data for food-borne pathogens. This will be accomplished by applying, analysing and comparing data collected from different sources (humans, animals, food and environment) that have been processed using various bioinformatics tools.
• To contribute to the development of risk-based sampling schemes for surveillance, outbreak investigation and source attribution.

Candidates should have a master's degree in life sciences or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
• Experience in interpreting and analysing WGS (whole genome sequencing) data from infectious microorganisms, and/or
• Skills in infectious disease and/or source attribution modelling.
